Hello my lovely readers! It is Sunday! Which means it is a new milestone week for me and Baby T. We are now 16 weeks pregnant. But this blog is focused on last week, week 15 of pregnancy. The beginning of the week started with a ton of burping and heartburn while I waited for my new prescription to arrive.
Baby T was about 4 inches long now and is about the size of an avocado. Just anxiously awaiting the days that I can feel her move. Most moms I have asked said they first felt their babies move around 18 weeks.
Baby T is breathing, sucking in and swallowing amniotic fluid. How my baby has grown already! I am so impressed with how quickly babies grow in utero. She is so prepared for her arrival. Now we are only 23 weeks until we meet Baby T. I can't believe how quick things move once you get through that first trimester.
Baby T is looking more and more like she will look at birth with each passing week and I cannot wait to see her in a few weeks at our anatomy scan! Only 3 more weeks now!
I am feeling pretty great! Other than pesky heartburn and belching, I feel normal now.
My mouth health has been just fine, besides that when I brush my teeth, I gag every time and it is so hard to just keep brushing the whole 2 minutes because I really think I am going to vomit. My gums seem to do well, a little more sensitive than normal with frequent bleeding when I floss my teeth, but no pain. I can see that my gums are more red and swollen than they typically are, but this changes nothing for me.
Weight gain should happen now that Baby T is putting on weight. I have gained one pound. But at the OB's office this week she was a bit concerned I still weigh less than I did pre-pregnancy. But since I am not vomiting and I am eating every couple hours, she said to just keep up with that because we need to gain weight now. Now that I have entered the 16th week of pregnancy that weight gain doesn't seem like it will be an issue, because I have been constantly hungry for the last day or so, eating a breakfast and feeling famished while waiting for my large lunch of corned beef, cabbage, potatoes and carrots.
Heartburn & Indigestion - This is very common in the second trimester and eating 6 small meals is a good way to keep gastrointestinal discomfort low.
Round Ligament Pain - This is caused by the stretching of the muscles and ligaments that hold the uterus in place. I was not expecting the pain to be so severe, but after week 14; I have not had it frequently; I think this is mostly because I have been able to keep my bowels moving. So I don't feel so uncomfortably large so frequently. I have been drinking Metamucil, eating prunes, and eating frosted shredded wheat. My OB recommended taking 400 mg of Magnesium daily for headaches and constipation, I have taken it for three days now and had even worse headaches and had to eat prunes, shredded wheat and flaming hot Cheetos to get a bowel movement. Yesterday morning I could keep my bowels moving. They appear to have slowed down again today.
Pregnancy Brain - I am not having any symptoms of pregnancy brain.
Fundal Height - My OB said that she doesn't start measuring this until my 20 week appointment. So even though we can hear that Baby T is much higher on my abdomen than the last time she searched for a heartbeat, I am not sure how high my uterus has actually gotten.
Healthy Snacks - Last week we went grocery shopping, and I bought a lot of healthy snacks to feed Baby T. Having frosted shredded wheat, prunes, cottage cheese, and raisins on hand to snack on every couple hours between meals.
Breakfast - I am a breakfast person so eating breakfast as soon as I wake up is a priority for me and T. I wake up to tummy rumbles and search for food as soon as I climb out of bed.
Eating enough to replace what is burned during exercise - I don't think this is an issue for me, I am shrinking, but not in my belly, which is wonderfully round and gives away our parental expectations to anyone who sees me. But you should eat a light snack 30 minutes before beginning a workout to keep your body in peak performance while creating this baby. I usually do my exercises shortly after lunch. Yesterday my foot crumbled under me during a lunge so I am at least taking a break from yoga and barre today and when I start back up, I will wear shoes for the barre portion to keep this from happening again.
We don't have to guess gender anymore since we found out at Christmas we were expecting our sweet baby girl, but I also have many symptoms that they usually attribute to girl pregnancies.
We had our 16 week appointment on Wednesday.
I am working well on eating every 3 hours in week 15. Week 15 was still a little harder to remind myself, okay its time for another snack, Baby T is getting hungry and needs food.
We are scheduled for my echocardiogram in less than a month to check how my heart is looking now that I am about halfway through the pregnancy.
I am looking forward to this visit for added peace of mind.
I dreamt last week that I was hospitalized for my whole second half of pregnancy because of preeclampsia.
