18 Weeks Pregnant

Writer's picture: twinklemama2020twinklemama2020

This week Myelin, a protective insulation is forming around Baby T's nerves. It will continue to grow until she is 1-year-old. This is helping further develop the senses of touch, taste, smell, sight, and hearing.

Baby T is hiccupping and yawning, though I have yet to feel any movements made by her. I still listen to her moving about with the Doppler in the morning and evening. She is active. I am very much hoping to feel her move soon; I think it will offer me a lot of peace of mind, but my gastroenterologist had suggested that my uterus may have grown to full size and Baby T will grow into it, which I think could be the case, when I listen to her moving about in my belly I can find her ALL OVER THE PLACE.

We have her 18 week ultrasound next week, February 9th. I am so eager to get in and finally see my baby girl. To see how much she has grown since her last appointment and how she moves.

My belly doesn't seem any bigger than it did at 14 weeks, but I plan to take a new picture this week to mark month 5 of pregnancy.

Back Aches - I don't have any back aches consistently, but I do, occasionally, feel like an old lady when I bend over. I am losing my balance much of the time, so I know things are changing quickly inside on me. While doing poses in yoga, I don't even try to rely on my balance anymore.

Fetal Movements - I am guessing it will still be quite some time before I can feel Baby T moving about. I have CONSTANT gas these days with severe pain and for a moment, I think, that bubble might have been a kick, and then I feel the pressure of a burp come up.

Leg Cramps - I thankfully have experienced no leg cramps yet, I think this is thanks to taking plenty of vitamins, doing plenty of exercise and getting LOTS of water.

Edema - Over the last week, I have noticed occasional swelling in my feet and ankles when I stand for prolonged periods. I raise my legs in the evening while watching TV with my husband, and this has always caused the swelling to dissipate.

Dizziness - I wouldn't say I have dizziness as much as lightheadedness. I have stopped what I am doing and sat down to drink a protein shake when the lightheadedness gets overwhelming.

Pediatricians - I have asked my gastroenterologist to suggest a pediatrician, I am quick to follow Doctor's advice and place a lot of trust into those on my health care team, and will do the same with baby girl.

Supplements - I am taking a Prenatal Vitamin with DHA, folic acid and Calcium with Vitamin D, I am not taking anything additional to these. I have occasionally drank pure chamomile tea.

Tiny Kicks - It is the first week that they typically expect you to feel movements you can start feeling anytime between weeks 18 to 22.

I am doing some serious nesting already; I go through spurts of feeling like I just need to relax and wait for more to get the house ready and then, like today, I have to deep-clean the house so I can bring Baby T home in 4 months.

I have gone through feelings of wondering what needs to move in our current lifestyle to prepare for our days to be centered on a new little human.

We also ordered her dresser with a changing table we can place on top to use temporarily as a changing station. This I wanted to make sure we had a dresser that would grow with her and doubt that we will even use the changing table all too frequently. But it will be a great place to store her clothing and diapers.

I am eager to get these here and start setting them up.

I watched a video on YouTube yesterday about hacks for setting up a nursery and I want to follow this vloggers lead in having small plastic crates inside the drawers of the dresser that are labeled to keep easy track of clothing, diapers, and accessories.

I am thinking I will just have to run to target to get these little baskets, but I need to have the dresser first to see what size we might need. I wish we were not in the middle of a pandemic. I plan to do this shopping in person while all other shopping has been done online. But I would love to have company for picking out the best products, maybe my husband would like to go with me.
