6 Weeks!

Today we are 6 weeks and 3 days pregnant! I am still very nervous. I try to remind myself that likely everything is going perfectly with this baby.

But having yet to experience a successful pregnancy, I question everything.

I don't feel like my baby is real, so I am torn between making every plan in our life for her and then just trying to live like normal. I hear this is really common in anyone going through pregnancy, because the first trimester is that most important time, but also the scariest time in pregnancy with the risk of miscarriage still being high.

I am having very scary dreams. I just keep having nightmares.

I wake up not feeling well. I have no desire to eat.

My cravings and aversions are getting stronger. But they vary from day to day by a lot. Today I want fruit, ice cream and fast food. But just last week I was all about toast and toasted sandwiches.

I have been consumed with if I feel the baby is a girl or a boy, most of the time I think girl. But there are still times I think they may be a boy. I don't remember thinking so much about this with the twins, and yet; I was sure they were boys. I think that was because the twins were always two, so it was always a "them" or "they" it didn't matter what their gender was but I don't enjoy calling my singular baby "it."

Baby Independence is now the size of a firecracker popper, the kind that you throw against the cement.

They are already a quarter of an inch now! Wow! Babies grow so fast!

Common Symptoms

Frequent Urination - I am still peeing frequently, but this has slowed down a bit. Last night I woke up at 4 am to pee but then fell back to sleep until 11 this morning!

Fatigue - Guys! This is real, this pregnancy, I think I could sleep my entire pregnancy away.

Constipation - Not terribly, but my stool is definitely harder now that I am a few weeks into pregnancy.

Breast Tenderness & Changes - Yes, my breasts are sore all the time and any touch hurts. My cat always wants to lie on my chest and the pain is real. My nipples are sticking out much more than they normally do. Making it look like I am always cold and they even poke through my sports bras. I don't think my nipples or areolas are different at all, but my husband thinks they may be larger.

Nausea & Vomiting - Thankfully, I have not vomited yet but I do wake up nauseous and keep it up all day. I constantly feel like I have butterflies. Nighttime seems to be the only relief I am getting with this pregnancy.

I have had to buy Vernors; I am wearing sea bands again; I bought two packs of Preggie Pops. Monday the nausea just went sky high and I have frequently thought I would throw up.

Bloating & Gas - My bloating and gas have relieved the last few days. Yes, after meals I have a lot of burping.

Actually, the week of Halloween, I looked 5 months pregnant and had gained weight. Now I am trying not to let myself get anxious because I am thinner than I normally am, lost my belly and a quickly dropping weight.

The picture on the left is from Halloween, I was 4 weeks and 6 days, the picture on the right is from this morning at 6 weeks and 3 days. I am down 5 pounds and much less bloated, I can also fit into all my clothes again.

Mood Swings - Thankfully, only just before bed do I lose my patience quickly. Otherwise, I am actually quite steady in my moods.

Recommendations

Look out for UTI symptoms - If it hurts to pee or when you try to go nothing comes. Contact your doctor as Urinary Tract Infections are common in pregnancy.

Get your steps in - It is important to make time for exercise, I go for a 20 minute brisk walk every day. I usually go after breakfast or after lunch. Now that the weather has finally caught up with the season I will do indoor workouts. I am currently doing some ab work outs that I won't keep up with for long.

Choose healthy treats - Making healthier alternative choices when you have cravings can help keep you and baby healthy. I have tried to just keep my cravings small treats when I have them.

Prepare for your 1st prenatal - We will see the heartbeat in 5 days! The Doctor has not scheduled our first prenatal visit with her, but nothing has changed since I answered these questions with the twins. I think we will have to do the whole early pregnancy screening soon. But I don't know when, I did that at 6 weeks and 2 days with the twins. I think they may wait until after my ultrasound next week.

Staying away from unsafe foods during pregnancy is very important. I am avoiding unpasteurized foods, I also have only had lunchmeat after it has been thoroughly heated. I am staying away from bologna and hot dogs.
