I have been reading Dreamcatcher by Stephen King, the first Stephen King novel I have ever read. I am only on page 77 of the 572 page novel. So far I love King's writing style. I have already noted two quotes from the description of the main characters' thought processes. I have to admit, I easily zone out while reading it and have to back myself up and re-read the page with renewed focus.
The first pages list news articles from all over the country that are actual historical news articles.
Next is where we meet the four main characters with the recollection of their SSDD motto. We then get four stories from the years prior to the novel's setting of November 2001. We see The Beav as a divorcee, Pete as an alcoholic who has given up on his childhood dreams and is now a car salesman. Henry, as a psychiatrist who goes hard on one of his patients and appears to break him. Henry is only pointing out the truth to this patient and some time later that patient dies because he is not taking care of himself. And finally Jonesy in the moments before he gets hit by a car just outside his job as an Associate Professor. Each of them has an un-explainable "know" that we get the idea must mean something to the rest of the novel. This "know" appears to be thanks to something that happened in their past and they discuss their childhood friend Dougie.
Part 1: Cancer - This is the actual start of the novel.
Chapter One: McCarthy, we follow Jonesy the day that he met McCarthy. Jonesy in the hunting stand reading in a sleeping bag and feeling that he cannot bring death to another living thing after his close brush. He sees what he thinks is a deer and then finds out that it is a man; the man acts strangely and Jonesy finally comes down from his stand to help the man.
Chapter Two: The Beav, we hear the story of how The Beav meets McCarthy that Jonesy has now brought back to their cabin.
Chapter Three: Henry's Scout, I am only 2 pages into this chapter now but we see Henry as a suicidal depressed man, who is contemplating the various ways to commit suicide. He is also thinking a lot about the way he does this will affect his three close friends.
I always read much better in the summer than any other time of the year. Summer is for reading. The long days put me in the mood to read. When the weather is hot, I need the cool down of sitting in front of a fan with an ice water and reading after going out for a run or an energetic clean of the house. Now that it is chilly, I don't have as much drive to read. So I have had a very slow start to the novel, I have books and books lined up to read after I finish this novel, but I am not feeling like reading. Not because of the content of the book, I want so badly to know what comes next, I just finally have that energy that the levothyroxine promised and sitting still is much harder.
We are almost done binging all of NCIS that is on Netflix, we will then have to find something else to watch in the evenings. I will argue that it is Halloween season and time to binge any Halloween specials we can find. My husband is not as big of a fan of Halloween as I am, but I am sure he will agree.
I am considering starting a YouTube channel to go with my blog and website.
I believe that I was wrong now about that feeling being an implantation pain. It may have been the start of ovulation, we will see. Today we are about 11 days since the pain and it feels like my period will start in the next few days. I have a small amount of vaginal discharge that is sticky and getting darker. Next month we will test ovulation and I will know that we hit the fertile window so that will be very helpful for my husband and I with trying to conceive. I will try not to think too much about the possibility of a pregnancy and just relax, but hopefully by my birthday in November we will have a positive pregnancy test.
I have been doing a lot more cooking.
Last night we had a delicious Ethiopian Feast that I made at home, completely from scratch, and I am so proud of myself for being able to make such delicious foreign food. I was looking up recipes with the inspiration from my favorite Ethiopian restaurant in the city I moved from to be with my husband. They have unique hours and my husband does not like it, so I haven't had it in years.
